Ramblings of a Pregnant Perfumista

Hello dear readers! I hope you are well, enjoying your fragrances and resting this holiday weekend. My life has changed drastically over the last few months, as you can imagine. I never thought I would be so disinterested in my perfume collection and I find it somewhat disturbing. There are times that I will be lounging on the couch (which is quite often these days due to fatigue and sickness) and I will suddenly think of all my beautiful bottles. I run through each of them in my mind, conjuring up their scent and asking myself, "Does that sound nice?" with each one. I have yet to find one that does. Even my beloved Annick Goutal Les Nuits d'Hadrien left me unimpressed this past Saturday night after I spritzed a tiny amount on my wrist before a party. I long for the day that I can enjoy fragrance once again! The only scent that sounds remotely interesting to me right now is Jo Malone Verbenas de Provence, a lovely citrusy light-as-a-breeze and refreshing scent. I imagine inhaling it as I do fresh oranges and lemons lately, pressing them to my nose to drown out other disturbing and overwhelming scents. In fact, citrus is the only scent that always smells good to my hormone-filled senses right now and I find it the perfect antidote to nausea. Even mint is a little too much at times.

Again, I appreciate your patience and understanding during this time of respite and wonder. I definitely need the break because my body and mind become exhausted after four or more hours of activity. I cannot imagine taxing my mind for another two to three hours to write a review. But I miss you all terribly! Please, tell me what you are wearing these days.

May God bless all fallen soldiers today and every day.

Hi, T, how nice to see your post show up on my Google reader page! I read your words with sympathy and compassion. Pregnancy is a truly unique time in one's life and no matter what you might have heard or read, you can't really know what to expect exactly until you're in it. Your senses and energy level will return to normal and food & perfume will actually smell good again. After you have a baby, you develop other skills, too, kind of like magic - the power to explain things, and to unravel even the most stubborn knots - all kinds of things. You'll see. ((T))
To get back to perfume, I treated myself this weekend and ordered a bottle of Parfums de Rosine Une Zeste de Rose. At the moment,I'm enjoying florals more than I ever thought I would, but I like them even better with a splash of citrus. Take care!

I'm wearing everything cheerful, these days.
Lots of green and floral things- citruses too.

Hang in there, my love.
It gets better !

This will give me a chance to explore my citruses and see what might appeal to you...

Many kisses to your belly.

Hi, we miss you, too.
Take care of yourself, the baby knows what it needs.. rest and good food..
I totally agree with Anita above, you will also grow eyes behind your head to keep up with your new addition... much to their chagrin when they are teenagers..
I have been quite Perfume crazy..
Voile de jasmin, omnia cristaline, burberry weekend (a gift- i dont much like) and my favorite.. MIchael Kors Island Capri.. LOVE it, it almost makes me feel that the temps have climbed above 45 degrees...
take care of yourself..
Con affetto,
Giulia

Pregnancy does crazy things to the nose...Jo Malone Lime Basil Mandarin was a favorite during both of mine...it kept the queasies away and lifted my spirits when the weepies hit.

Right now I am going through my many samples. But I come back to Tauer Incense Rose a lot!

Keep to those lemons and oranges! I've been devoted to my own Cloudgazing, which is straight-up no-drydown mint, lime, and sage. If it gets colder, I put Opium Fleur de Shanghai or Le Labo Ciste 18 on. :)

When my stepsister got pregnant again, I made her a citrus scent I called Elation Grove, and it had grapefruit, tangerine, lime, bitter orange, and a touch of clove and musk to anchor it. She wore it all the way through, and then once the baby was born it smelled off-kilter on her. Babies know what they want!

Elizabeth,

I love your terminology - "the queasies" and "the weepies" is so true!! I have yet to try Tauer Incense Rose but I've heard such fabulous things about it. Enjoy!

Hello Risa,

Thank you for sharing your suggestions and thoughts. Cloudgazing sounds incredibly good right now. And what a great sister you were to create a fragrance for your sister during her pregnancy - especially one that sounds so delicious! Her experience confirms my suspicion that what I enjoy now will smell bland to me after our baby arrives.

Hello, and Best Wishes to you,

I am wearing Chanel #5 body cream, applied sparingly to the nape of my neck. It is courtesy of you, from your draw this time last year!

I hope things go well for you and that your baby inherits your gorgeous hair and generous nature :)

Sincerely,

Carole MacLeod

Hi, Adeline from Melbourne, Australia here, just chanced upon your blog and will be a regular reader from now on:)

Wasn't too long ago that I was preggers myself and the only scents I could tolerate were Bvlgari Extreme (green tea) and The Different Company's Divine Bergamote.

Take heart, during pregnancy, you sense of smell is in overdrive and I took the opportunity to sniff my husband's wines intead; you'd be amazed at how accurate your 'nose' is!
